After the last election (2002) when the postcommunist MSZP won
many people have found small political circles. Some of them are
liberalist, some of the have united to the Fidesz, some of them
radicalist or environmentalist or conservationist or saving the
civil rights.. For example in my town there is two civic circle:
Civic Circle of the Family Doctors in Ppa and the Civic Circle
of Ppa.
Some of the circles have united with another circles - some
made the larger union of the circles - for example the
"Tiszntli Polgri Krk Szvetsge". The
Tiszntli Polgri Krk Szvetsge" is the union of
the cicvic circles in the Tiszntl Region. Here is its flag.
Tiszntl is the one of the three largest region of Hungary:
Dunntl (left from the Danube), Duna-Tisza-kze (between the
rivers) and the Tiszntl (right from the Tisza river).

Civic Circle is part of Fidesz Electoral Bloc
in 2006 elections. Above is flag of an Civic Circle with the
motto of the Fidesz Electoral Bloc. The flag is one of the flags
used by civic circles. Some CC has got their own flag - for
example the Civic Circle in Ppa has
a white flag with the Coat of Arms of the town and the green
insription: PPAI POLGRI KR. The CC's use the tricolor with
different inscriptions. This inscription - as a motto of the CC's
- is the most common motto. The long form of the motto:
'HAJR MAGYARORSZG, HAJR MAGYAROK!', was used at first by
Viktor Orbn prime minister after the first round of
the election 2002.

Those flags of Hungarian Justice and Life Party were shown on
a photo from a party presentation, which was published in Serbian
magazine "Evropa" (ISSN 1820-0761), issue #45 of
2005-02-17, p. 28, as the illustration of an article about
activities of Hungarian extreme nationalists in Vojvodina,
Serbia, who, according to the text, might have been supported by
that party.
The first flag was hung from the edge of a table at which two
party activists were sitting and attached to it along its top
edge. It had white field, bordered with many small alternating
red and green triangles, and was charged with a simplified
version of the party emblem: a large white shield outlined red
and charged with green monogram. On each side of the emblem,
there were letters ASZTG, arranged vertically, in silver or very
light gray colour, so they vere hardly visible against the white
field on the photo. The text gave no clue to the meaning of those
letters; perhaps they stood for a local branch of the party,
whose flag it might have been.
The second flag was spread on the wall behind the table, had a
different emblem on white field: a yellow shield, charged with a
bit smaller red shield with three white stripes ("modified
Arpad stripes"), which occupied most of the larger shield,
leaving only a yellow fimbriation along its dexter and sinister
sides and a larger yellow area in the chief, which was charged
with the party name abbreviation in black. The smaller shield was
also fimbriated in red. The flag field was bordered with larger
red and green triangles than those on the first flag, looking
more like the border of other party flags .

A flag with three white stripes on red field was seen in some
places in Vojvodina, Serbia, in autumn 2004, on concerts of
Hungarian rock band Ka'rpa'tia, which turned into nationalist and
irredentist rallies. In some texts which appeared in Serbian
press afterwards and contained photos of this flag, it was said
that the flag was brought from Hungary, but that it is banned
there. This flag can also be seen at <www.hvim.hu/050315.jpg>,

unrecognizable black emblem superimposed) and <www.hvim.hu/040604/19.jpg>
(in upper left corner of the image, with a black emblem
superimposed, which might be that of the Sixty-four Counties
Youth Movement). At the Hungarian Justice
and Life Party site <www.miep.hu>
such a flag is also shown behind the party emblem.
Tomislav Todorovic, 9 August 2006
The NY Times had a photo of Hungarians demonstrating at the
anniversary of the 1956 revolt (and against the present
government). A flag is shown. The dexter side of the national
Coat of Arms is barry of eight red and white (the arms of
rpd) but this flag is barry of seven.
Albert S. Kirsch, 24 October 2006
According to <rus.postimees.ee>,
this is a symbolic "flag of Dinasty of Arpads", used by
extremist-rights hungarian nationalists movements before WWII.
The numbers of the stripes can be modified.
At <news.yahoo.com>,
Mr.Zoltan Simon wrote: "...Gabor Kuncze, president of the
junior coalition Free Democrats party, also questioned the
presence at Fidesz rallies of extremists waving the
red-and-white-striped "Arpad" flag used by Hungary's
pro-Nazi government during World War II.. "Why does (Fidesz)
not say during its rallies that these flags have no place there,
that those protestors should get the hell out of there? What we
see is not only the responsibility of Fidesz but the tactics of
Fidesz," Kuncze said in parliament..."
At <horinca.blogspot.com>
it is written: "One thing to notice is that these are not
really Hungarian national flags. These are the red and white
"Arpad Stripe" flags. Originally flown by the tenth
century nomadic Hungarians, the Arpad Stripe was only revived as
a symbol in 1944, under the Nazi Arrow Cross junta that took over
Hungary after the German Nazis kidnapped Hungary's
"not-right-wing-enough" regent Admiral Horthy. In the
early 1990's skinhead groups revived the striped white and red
flag. Very simply, flying it means the same as flying a swastika
does in Germany..."
Mikhail Revnivtsev, 25 and 29 October 2006
According to a wire by AP (Associated Press) agency, published
on 11 December 2006 by "The
International Herald Tribune", the right-wing party
Movement for a Better Hungary announced it would adopt the Arpad
Stripes flag as its party flag.
The party claimed it was unfair to identify the
"Arpad-Stripes flag" with the former Arrow Cross Party, which killed tens
of thousands of Jews in late 1944 and early 1945, because the
pro-Nazi party never used it as an official symbol. "Our aim
is to make the Arpad Stripes mean something different to people
from their current meaning," Movement leader Gabor Vona
said. "Unfortunately, it is true ... the flag has a negative
connotation for most people, but we want to rehabilitate
it." "If someone waves Arpad-Striped flags in
Hungary today ... they must know that they are waving a symbol of
the Arrow Cross," said Balint Magyar, a former education
minister and now chairman of the Task Force for International
Cooperation on Holocaust Education, Remembrance and Research.
The "Arpad-Stripes flag" was resurrected by
the Arrow Cross, led by Ferenc Szalasi, which is linked to the
Holocaust, in which some 550,000 Hungarian Jews were killed. The
Arrow Cross' official flag showed two double-ended arrows in a
cross inside a white circle on a red background. It is banned in
Hungary, along with other symbols such as the communist red star
and the Nazi swastika. However, the Arpad-Striped flag in not a
banned symbol. Recently, some demonstrators have used the flag in
anti-government protests.
Ivan Sache, 16 December 2006
The flags of the Arrowcross Movement (1944) was red flag with
the green arrowcross with or without 4 white stripes
(red/white/red/white/red/white/red/white/red). The stripes were
de facto banned in 1949-1989, as well as the Hungarian Coat of
Arms was banned too! You know the two symbols of the 1956
revolution: The flag with hole (cut the 'Rkosi-CoA') and the
Hungarian historical Coat of Arms (without the crown). After the
Communism era, Hungary renewed the Coat of Arms. n the early 90s
many people used the Arrowcross flag with stripes without
arrowcross. Neo-Nazis used them too. Using the original rpd
stripes is a new thing. People on demonstrations or national
holidays use also many other historical flags - 1848 military
flags, 1956 flags etc....
People who use these flags are not necesserally Nazis or
right-wing supporters - also patriotic, liberal or conservative
people use them.
